Miguna Names Leaders Who Turned Against Him as Lulu Hassan Faces Backlash
Miguna Miguna, a lawyer and political analyst, aroused outrage after sending a message on how various Kenyan politicians collaborated with President William Ruto before joining the opposition.
His comments came amid mounting criticism of media stars Lulu Hassan, Trevor Ombija, and Stephen Letoo for alleged political ambitions.
In his article, Miguna cited former President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i, George Natembeya, and Babu Patel. He accused them of previously benefitting from political agreements before portraying themselves as liberators.
His remarks called into question the notion that politicians who leave office immediately become public champions.
The conversation followed Agnes Momanyi’s extensive piece defending media celebrities’ right to select their own political courses.
She contended that news anchors should not be labelled as activists just because they report on police brutality, kidnappings, and other national issues.
She also wondered why some Kenyans insult newcomers to the UDA while supporting leaders who had switched political parties themselves.
Momanyi went on to claim that many politicians swap sides for personal reasons rather than ideological differences.
She mentioned Gachagua’s prior working relationship with Ruto, claiming that the former deputy president defected to the opposition following his impeachment.
According to her, voters should judge candidates based on their deeds rather than merely congratulating those who oppose the existing government.
Miguna’s comments have thus brought a new dimension to the argument about political allegiance and public accountability ahead of the 2027 General Election.Miguna’s comments have thus brought a new dimension to the argument about political allegiance and public accountability ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The scandal also raises questions about whether Kenyans hold all politicians to the same standards, regardless of party affiliation.
While citizens have the right to oppose political decisions, the Constitution guarantees freedom of association.
Ultimately, voters will be able to choose which candidates deserve their support at the voting box.
