“Kenya Will Burn” Wahome Thuku Warns Ruto, CJ Koome On What’ll Happen In 2027 If Elections Is Rigged

Kenyan lawyer and political commentator Wahome Thuku has warned that any attempt to manipulate the 2027 presidential election could trigger a serious political crisis, potentially undermining public confidence in the country’s judicial system and democratic institutions.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Thuku cautioned that a disputed presidential election could provoke widespread public anger against the Supreme Court, with some Kenyans potentially seeking alternative ways to challenge the legitimacy of the results.

Thuku suggested that, in such a scenario, the country could witness protests and calls for what he described as a “Supreme Court of the People,” reflecting possible public frustration with the official judicial process for resolving electoral disputes.

“At the moment, one thing is obvious. Kenya Kwisha, rigging the 2027 presidential election. There will be no Supreme Court cases. There will be a fire at the Supreme Court. There are also plans to build the People’s Supreme Court. It is up to you to hold free and fair elections in order to save the country,” he stated.

His remarks underscore concerns about the importance of credible elections in maintaining political stability and public trust in state institutions. Under Kenya’s constitutional framework, presidential election disputes can be challenged at the Supreme Court, which has the authority to determine their validity.

Thuku also proposed separating presidential elections from county and parliamentary polls, arguing that the arrangement could require constitutional amendments. The proposal would represent a significant change to Kenya’s current electoral system, in which the elections are generally conducted simultaneously.

Additionally, he advocated exploring different voting arrangements, including providing designated polling facilities for people who may be unable to use conventional voting options.

However, the proposals remain suggestions attributed to Thuku and would require broader political debate and, where necessary, constitutional and legislative changes.

His comments come as attention increasingly turns to preparations for the 2027 general election, with electoral credibility, institutional independence and peaceful dispute resolution expected to remain central issues in Kenya’s political debate.
