Makgitla Noko, originally from Zebediela in Limpopo and now based in Sunnyside, Tshwane, worked directly for Metrorail from July 2020 until he was dismissed on 14 July 2026.
He openly told Daily Sun that he was fired after he was hijacked while using the company’s official vehicle without permission.
He said he has been trying daily to get his UIF since losing his job but claims he was repeatedly turned away at the Pretoria Labour Centre.
“I’ve been turned away and promised that I’d be called, but nothing is happening,” said Makgitla.
He said he has unfortunately been without an income since losing his job, and his family is now struggling.
“I lost my source of income. My children are suffering and my sister is suffering, so I need assistance,” said Makgitla.
He claimed that the officials at the Labour Centre never gave him a clear reason for the continued delay.
“They just say they will investigate and get back to me. When I call, they don’t respond to my calls, and they don’t reply to my emails.”
Makgitla also claimed he was often physically chased away by private security then he went to the Labour Centre to enquire.

He said he was eventually contacted by them after sending an email to the department and copying Daily Sun.
“They called me and told me not to speak to Daily Sun and not to copy Daily Sun on my emails. They said they’d fix my issues, but nothing has been done,” he claimed.
Makgitla said he simply wants the money he believes he is owed so he can survive.
“They must just pay me my money urgently because the waiting period has passed,” he said.
The Department of Employment and Labour spokesman, Teboho Thejane, said the department was finally able to locate Makgitla’ client ID after searching its system.
Thejane noted that Noko’s UIF claim was approved on 19 August. “A request for payment was submitted on 29 September 2026 by the client,” he said.
According to Thejane, the payment was successfully processed on 30 September and should reflect in Makgitla’s bank account within seven to 15 working days from the date of processing.
Makgitla is now waiting for the processed money to reflect in his account.
