“It’s Like A Father Talking To A Son”- Pete Edochie On His Relationship With Nigerian Leaders
Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has recounted how the government provided ₦500,000 in financial assistance to an ailing colleague after he appealed for help.
The legendary actor shared the experience during an interview at his residence in Enugu, where he explained how he used his influence to draw the government’s attention to his colleague’s health condition.
According to Edochie, his appeal received a positive response, as the government reportedly sent the sick actor ₦500,000 the following week.
Recalling what happened, he said, “During that period, one of my colleagues was ill, so I used that opportunity to call on the government to come help him.”
He added, “The following week, the government sent him half a million naira.”
However, the veteran actor did not disclose the identity of the colleague who received the money or reveal which government provided the financial assistance.
Edochie also spoke about his relationship with Nigerian political leaders, explaining why he feels comfortable addressing them directly.
According to him, his age and years of experience have earned him the confidence to speak to governors and the president as a father would speak to his children.
“I’m older than all the governors and president, so when I talk to them, it’s like a father talking to a son,” he said.
His account has also brought attention to the financial challenges that veteran actors can face when health issues prevent them from working, highlighting the importance of assistance for ageing performers in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
“I was interviewed in my house in Enugu. During that period, one of my colleagues was ill so I used that opportunity of the interview to call upon the government to come to his aid.
