The teams meet on Saturday, October 10, at the August 4 Sports Stadium in Ouagadougou, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00 GMT.
Issah, who plays at left-back, spoke confidently about Ghana’s preparations at Friday’s pre-match press conference. He said the squad had responded positively to the guidance from the technical team and was ready to put that work into practice.
“We’re here to make ourselves and our coaches proud. We have had good preparations, and the coaches have taught us a lot. We believe in what they have taught us, and we are ready to go out there and give our best against Togo,” Issah said.
The captain believes the unity within the Ghana camp will be an important asset as the tournament gets under way. He also expects the lessons from the team’s preparations to help the players deal with the demands of their opening fixture.
Issah is set to carry a significant leadership responsibility as the Black Starlets attempt to begin their regional campaign with a positive result. Ghana will be looking to translate their work in training into a strong performance against Togo.
The Black Starlets bring recent experience of competing at this level into the tournament. They finished runners-up at last year’s WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship in Cote d’Ivoire, a campaign that also secured their qualification for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
That run gives the squad an opportunity to build on its previous regional performance, while the players will now aim to start this year’s competition strongly. Their immediate challenge is Togo in Ouagadougou, where Issah says Ghana will give their best in pursuit of a successful opening game.
