French riot police clashed with student protesters in Paris as nationwide demonstrations over school funding and deteriorating education conditions continued, with officers using tear gas, batons and water cannons around Bastille. Around 71,500 people joined protests across France on Thursday, according to the Interior Ministry, while more than 500 were detained and hundreds of schools were disrupted. The government has promised thousands of substitute teachers and new measures, but student leaders say demonstrations will continue until conditions improve.
