FG Announces 30-Day Petrol Discount At NNPC Stations

According to a report by TVC News on Thursday, October 8, 2026, the Federal Government has announced a 30-day discount on petrol sold through NNPC stations nationwide.

The government said public transport operators would receive priority under the initiative, which is expected to run for 30 days in the first instance.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, explained that the measure should not be regarded as a return to petrol subsidy.

“We are offering a discount on petrol dispensed by NNPC limited for the next 30 days in the first instance with priority for public transporters nationwide,” Oyedele said.

“So, it’s not a subsidy, government is just saying we sell to you at cost,” he added.

The announcement comes after NNPC recently concluded a separate ₦66-per-litre Independence Day promotion for customers using its Fuel App. That promotion ran from October 1 to 7, 2026.

The latest intervention is different from the earlier promotion, as Oyedele said the new discount would prioritise public transporters nationwide.

The Federal Government has also been pursuing measures aimed at reducing transportation costs through cheaper energy alternatives, including the National Affordable CNG Transit Programme.

Oyedele’s announcement therefore places the 30-day petrol discount within the government’s broader efforts to reduce the cost burden on transport operators and Nigerians.
