Father of Late Berekum Chelsea Player Drops Bombshell Over Son’s Death, Alleges He Was Sacrificed

The father of late Berekum Chelsea player Dominic Frimpong has raised fresh concerns about the circumstances surrounding his son’s death, alleging that the 20-year-old was not killed by a gunshot during the reported robbery attack on the club’s team bus.

Speaking in an interview with Fakye TV, Nana Frimpong questioned the explanation surrounding his son’s death, claiming he did not observe any visible evidence of a gunshot wound on the deceased’s body.

He suggested that the circumstances warranted further scrutiny and expressed suspicions about what might have happened to his son.

“My son was not shot; I believe he was killed. There were no signs or evidence of gunshot wounds on his body,” he said.

Nana Frimpong also accused Berekum Chelsea of using his son as a sacrifice in the club’s efforts to escape relegation from the Ghana Premier League.

He warned parents against allowing their children to play for the club, making serious allegations about the circumstances that led to Dominic’s death.

“I believe Berekum Chelsea used my son as a sacrifice in their fight to avoid relegation. Even if they offer you GH₵30 billion, don’t allow your son to go and play for Berekum Chelsea. They will kill him,” he alleged.

Dominic Frimpong died in April 2026 following an armed attack on the Berekum Chelsea team bus along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District.

The team was reportedly returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex when the incident occurred.

According to police accounts, six armed men ambushed the bus, which was transporting approximately 30 players and club officials.

Three of the attackers were reportedly armed with pump-action guns.

The assailants opened fire as the bus driver attempted to manoeuvre away from the attack.

Reports also indicated that another victim was robbed of GH₵4,500 during the incident.

Following the attack, two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident as investigations proceeded.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the police had previously maintained that Frimpong died as a result of the armed attack on the team bus.

However, his father’s latest allegations have brought renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding the young footballer’s death.
