Explain the whereabouts of the $12 million meant for the dams” – Lawyer Bernard Bediako to Bawumia

In an Official Facebook Post on 9 October 2026, Kojo Anane Sonkondo shared remarks from Hon. Bernard Bediako Baidoo, Member of Parliament for Akwatia, who issued a strong challenge to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over the government’s flagship One Village, One Dam initiative and the Pwalugu Dam project. His words — “Explain the whereabouts of the $12 million meant for the dams” — captured both skepticism and demand for accountability.

Baidoo questioned the actual delivery of the One Village, One Dam policy, asking Bawumia to tell Ghanaians where the dams were located and to provide the names of the villages that benefited. He argued that despite the grand promise, there is little evidence of completed projects, and the public deserves clarity on how many dams were truly constructed.

He went further to raise concerns about the Pwalugu Dam project, which was touted as a transformative initiative for irrigation and power generation in the Northern Region. According to Baidoo, $12 million was allegedly paid out for the project, yet no corresponding work has been done. He demanded that Bawumia explain what happened to the funds and why the project remains stalled.

Additionally, Baidoo broadened his critique to include the National Cathedral project, questioning reports of $400 million in expenditure despite the project being little more than “a hole in the ground.” For him, these examples illustrate a pattern of mismanagement and lack of transparency in government spending.

His commentary reflects a wider frustration among opposition figures and citizens who feel that flagship projects have failed to deliver tangible results. By directly challenging Bawumia, Baidoo positioned himself as a voice demanding accountability, insisting that promises must be matched by evidence on the ground.

Public reaction to his post is likely to be intense. Supporters of the NDC may see his words as a necessary exposure of government failures, while defenders of the NPP may argue that such projects face complex challenges and that progress takes time. Nonetheless, the strength of Baidoo’s words lies in their ability to keep the issue alive in public discourse, ensuring that questions about transparency and delivery are not ignored.

On the whole, his post was both accusatory and probing. It reminded Ghanaians that development promises must be backed by visible results and financial accountability. At the end of the day, Bernard Bediako Baidoo’s words were a direct challenge: Dr. Bawumia must explain where the dams are, what happened to the $12 million for Pwalugu, and why the National Cathedral has consumed millions without progress.
