Deputies Seize Stolen Copper in I-80 Traffic Stop Wednesday

LINCOLN–(KFOR Oct. 9)–The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says a man traveling through Nebraska was arrested for allegedly having $250,000 in stolen copper.

A freightliner truck was seen pulling a trailer on westbound Interstate 80 near Lincoln on Wednesday afternoon, with the trailer leaving heavily to the passenger side, according to LSO. A deputy made a traffic stop and according to court records, the driver was unable to provide registration for the vehicle, and was unable to provide a bill of lading for the load he was transporting.

The driver said that the company he worked for did not provide either documents. In the cargo trailer, the deputy found 11 pallets of copper wire. This load had no seal or lock on the cargo doors, and the load was shifted to the side.

The driver, 22-year-old Raman Pal, was charged with criminal impersonation and theft by unlawful taking of over $5,000. Deputies also found two additional IDs with different names.
