China’s Geely to Start Selling Cars in Canada In a Matter of Months, According to the Company
Geely’s Sales in Canada Will Start Next YearVCG – Getty ImagesThe massive Chinese conglomerate Geely Auto Group will start selling its vehicles in Canada as soon as next year, according to a report by Automotive News.
It will have to compete against the likes of Tesla, as well as BYD, Chery, and Dongfeng, to make up the 49,000 Chinese imports allowed by Canada next year.
Up to this point, Geely hasn't announced which cars it plans to sell in Canada, nor has the company given any clue to the price points it is planning to target.
Canadian roads will soon be home to Geely products, according to a report by Automotive News. The Chinese auto group is preparing to start selling its vehicles in Canada as soon as the opening months of 2027, the report shows.

The announcement from Geely is the first from the major Chinese automakers, though it surely won't be the last. In addition to Geely, BYD, Chery, and Dongfeng have all announced intentions to enter the Canada market.
Actual product details are still limited. Geely still hasn't confirmed exactly which cars it is planning to bring to Canada; nor has it announced which price points it will be targeting. That said, the company has been hiring for both its eponymous Geely brand and its luxury division, Zeekr, since the spring, so we wouldn't be shocked if the automaker targets a wide breadth of the market.

Earlier in 2026, the Canadian government did away with its 100 percent tariff rate on vehicles imported from China and replaced it with a quota system. Automakers will have to fight on a first-come, first-served basis up to the strict limit of just 49,000 vehicles in the first year of the system. As things stand now, that limit is set to rise by 6.5 percent annually.
The automaker hasn't confirmed exactly when it expects its first products to go on sale, but considering that Geely already has some foothold in the country through its ownership of Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus, it should be well situated for an early start.
