Benson Ongom leaves NBS TV for OPM spokesperson job

Benson Ongom, the NBS TV regional bureau chief for Northern Uganda, has been appointed spokesperson for two government programmes at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).

He will speak for the Development Response to Displacement Impacts Project (DRDIP) and the fourth phase of the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund (Nusaf IV).

Ongom is the second former NBS TV employee to join a government body in a week. Mildred Tuhaise, the husky-voiced former NBS TV news anchor, recently joined the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC).

It is also the second time in two years that Ongom has left NBS TV. He briefly quit the station in 2023 to work for Atiak Sugar Factory before returning to the station.

Veteran journalist Rugyendo appointed Oboth-Oboth’s press secretary replacing Joseph Sabiti

DRDIP is a World Bank-funded project run by the OPM. According to the OPM website, it supports poor and vulnerable people in districts that host refugees. These include Lamwo, in the Acholi sub-region.

NUSAF is the government’s social action fund for northern Uganda. NUSAF IV will focus on raising household incomes through intensive agriculture.

Ongom’s new work will include explaining both programmes to the public and the media.
