2026 Pension Indexation: SSNIT Announces 36.5% Monthly Adjustment for Lowest Earners

2026 Pension Indexation: SSNIT Announces 36.5% Monthly Adjustment for Lowest Earners

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has announced its 2026 pension adjustments, with retirees receiving the lowest monthly benefits set to enjoy an increase of 36.5%.

The adjustment is part of SSNIT’s statutory pension indexation process, which seeks to account for inflation and changes in the cost of living. This latest review places particular emphasis on providing greater relief to pensioners who receive smaller monthly payments.

Under the new arrangement, all pensioners will benefit from an increase, although the percentage adjustment will depend on the amount of their existing monthly pension.

Retirees receiving lower pensions will enjoy the highest percentage increases, while those receiving medium and higher benefits will receive comparatively smaller adjustments.

SSNIT explained that the new rates were determined after considering several factors, including prevailing economic conditions, the performance of the pension fund and demographic trends.

The organisation said the approach was designed to offer meaningful financial support to pensioners while ensuring that the pension scheme remains financially sustainable.

Pensioners have been encouraged to check their pension statements once the revised rates take effect. The adjusted payments are expected to appear in the next payment cycle.

The latest pension indexation is intended to strengthen the financial security of retirees, particularly those with limited monthly incomes, while ensuring the responsible management and long-term sustainability of Ghana’s national pension system.
