2 dead in wrong-way crash involving semi tractor trailer on freeway near Las Vegas Speedway

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Two drivers are dead after a wrong-way freeway crash involving a semi tractor-trailer during the early morning hours on Friday.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 3:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, on the northbound I-15 just north of Speedway Boulevard.

Nevada Highway Patrol said the crash involved three vehicles, two sedans and a semi tractor-trailer. Police said one of the sedans was traveling the wrong way (southbound) on the I-15 northbound lanes before the collision.

The drivers of both sedans were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi tractor-trailer was not injured and remained on scene with investigators. Police did not specify how the semi was involved in the collision.

All I-15 northbound lanes are closed at mile marker 54, which is the Speedway Boulevard exit. Traffic is being diverted off the Speedway exit, continuing onto North Las Vegas Boulevard to the I-15 and Apex location to get back on the I-15 to continue north.

The lanes will remain closed for an unknown amount of time while police investigate. Drivers should avoid the area if possible.
