Troops deployment to KSA doesn’t impact Pakistan’s role as ‘effective mediator’
UNITED NATIONS – Pakistan’s move to send troops to Saudi Arabia under the Makkah defence pact does not effect its role as an “effective mediator” in the conflict between United States and Iran, a UN spokesperson said Wednesday.
“I don’t see a contradiction in that,” Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in response to a question from a journalist who questioned Pakistan’s neutrality following its decision to deploy troops to the kingdom at the regular noon briefing at UN Headquarters in New York.

“ A large number of countries have military pacts and alliances with other countries,” he said, adding, “It doesn’t stop Pakistan from having been a very effective mediator in that sense, and, as you know, with the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.,” Dujarric added. “Other countries have also been involved, notably Qatar, Egypt, and others,” Dujarric pointed out. “So, I think I don’t see a contradiction in that. And also, the important thing for any mediators to be accepted by both parties, and I think that continues to be the case.”
