The Amount of Money Uhuru Has Donated To Families of Catholic Pilgrims Who Died in a Road Accident

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar has donated KSh 500,000 to families of 17 Catholic pilgrims who died in a road accident near Salama in Makueni County on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Omar made the donation during a visit to St. Mathias Mulumba Catholic Parish in Mikindani, Mombasa County, where he condoled with the bereaved families.

He handed the money to the parish priest, directing that it be distributed exclusively to the affected families to help meet their most pressing needs.

Omar described the accident as a national tragedy, expressing sadness over the loss of the pilgrims who were travelling to Subukia National Shrine in Nakuru County for the National Prayer Day.

He also pledged to honour the victims annually and urged Christians to continue praying for the deceased and their families.

Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i had earlier visited the parish and announced a combined contribution of KSh 1 million, with KSh 500,000 from him and another KSh 500,000 from former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mombasa Archbishop Martin Kivuva Musonde also called on the faithful to pray for the victims and their families as they cope with the devastating loss.
