Just outside the shop on Khumalo Street, at least 10 cars were set alight during clashes between the residents and foreign nationals.
JMPD and SAPS officers are on the scene as tensions remain high.
A group of Soweto residents is removing stock from the fana spaza shop, with the products being placed outside along the side of the road.
None of the community members appear to be taking the stock, as they say theyβre waiting for the shop owners to collect it.
Lungile Yende, one of the people leading the protest, says they are not looting the store but are instead making space for the spaza shop to be occupied by a South African.
βThese are Sowetans taking the things out. This is not looting. We want them to go out so that South Africans can take over this place,β said Yende.
JMPD officers are on the scene, monitoring the situation as community members continue to remove products from the store.
Earlier, firefighters were also at the scene, extinguishing fires from cars that had been set alight.
