Add ARY News on GoogleFollow on Google DiscoverImage: InstagramAAResizeSofia Vergaraās ex-husband Joe Manganiello has made a series of claims about their marriage, alleging that the relationship became emotionally distant while he was privately battling a serious and prolonged health crisis.
Manganiello, 49, details the difficult period in his upcoming memoir Bloodlines, in which he reportedly recalls feeling emotionally unsupported by Vergara during his illness.
The claims represent Manganielloās account of their marriage, and Vergaraās representatives had not publicly responded to the allegations when they were first reported.
According to excerpts from the memoir, Manganiello alleges that Vergara refused to embrace him even when he asked her to.
The actor reportedly describes their marriage as having become ādevoid of any emotionality whatsoeverā during the period when he was struggling with his health.
He also claims that Vergara ridiculed his close attachment to his Chihuahua, Bubbles, whom he adopted in 2019 during an especially difficult chapter of his life.
Manganiello has previously explained that caring for the dog gave him a sense of purpose while he was struggling personally.
Manganielloās memoir also sheds light on a health battle that he largely kept private for years.
According to the bookās publisher, Simon & Schuster, the actor experienced a series of autoimmune-related illnesses affecting multiple parts of his body, including his skin, thyroid, eyes, lungs and digestive system.
His condition reportedly involved years of chronic pain and repeated medical emergencies, while doctors struggled to determine the underlying cause.
Manganiello and Vergara married in Palm Beach, Florida, in November 2015 after dating for several years.
The couple announced their separation in July 2023, following more than seven years of marriage, and their divorce was finalized in 2024.
Vergara previously said that differences over having children contributed to the breakdown of their marriage. The actress, who already has a son, explained that she did not want to become a mother again.
Manganiello, however, offers a different perspective in his memoir, saying that his health struggles had changed his own plans for fatherhood.
