Sifuna Reacts to Oburu’s Health Condition, Reveals What He Suspects — Details

ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has spoken out against reports circulating online falsely claiming that party leader Oburu Oginga had died.

Sifuna expressed hope that Oburu was in stable condition but questioned the origin and timing of the reports, which sparked anxiety among Kenyans and ODM supporters.

“We hope he is well, but I suspect these bloggers were hired by the government to spread the information,” Sifuna said while addressing the rumours surrounding Oburu’s health.

His comments came amid continued public interest in Oburu’s condition as he remains in hospital while recovering from an illness.

Rumours of his alleged death spread rapidly across social media on Tuesday, October 6, prompting reactions from his family, ODM officials and several political leaders. Oburu’s office subsequently dismissed the claims, confirming that he was alive, safe and in good spirits.

ODM officials urged the public to rely on verified and official sources for updates concerning the party leader’s health.

Oburu’s son, Jaoko, also provided an update, saying his father was making progress and was following strict medical advice. According to Jaoko, doctors had instructed Oburu to get adequate rest and reduce physical engagements as his recovery continued.

On Wednesday, October 7, Jaoko conveyed a message from his father during the handover ceremony of the Raila Odinga Mausoleum in Bondo, which Oburu was unable to attend.

He told the gathering that Oburu was feeling much better and appreciated the prayers and support he had received from Kenyans.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga also visited Oburu and reported that he was recovering well and remained in high spirits.

The updates have helped ease concerns surrounding Oburu’s condition following the widespread death rumours.

His family and party officials have continued appealing to Kenyans to pray for his recovery and refrain from sharing unverified claims about his health.
