Senior lecturer dies in hotel room With 21 year old girl

A senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has died in a hotel room under circumstances that have left police investigating the events surrounding his final hours.

The lecturer, identified as Matthew Uwuigbe, reportedly died on Sunday at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria.

Police have since arrested three people as detectives work to establish exactly what happened before the academic’s death.

According to the police, Uwuigbe had checked into the hotel before engaging the services of a 21-year-old female worker identified as Angela Jacob. The circumstances surrounding their encounter have become a key part of the ongoing investigation.

Police spokesperson Ikoedem said the command received information about the incident at approximately 8 p.m. on October 5.

According to the police account, Uwuigbe had lodged at the hotel and later asked Jacob to leave the room temporarily to purchase water for him.

What happened after she returned would trigger a police investigation.

“When she returned, she found him lying dead in the room,” the police spokesperson said.

The discovery prompted the authorities to intervene, with detectives beginning investigations to determine the circumstances and possible cause of death.

Uwuigbe’s body was subsequently removed from the hotel and deposited at the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary, where it awaits further procedures as investigations continue.

University Confirms Lecturer Was Its Employee

Ambrose Alli University has confirmed that Uwuigbe was a member of its academic staff.

However, the institution was quick to clarify that the incident did not occur within the university’s premises and was unrelated to official university activities.

AAU spokesperson Mike Aladenika confirmed the lecturer’s employment while stressing that the events occurred in his private life.

“We are not denying that he is our staff, but whatever he did and what happened, it is his private life,” Aladenika told PM News.

The university also clarified another detail that had attracted attention following reports of the incident.

According to Aladenika, the young woman identified in connection with the incident was not an AAU student.

“The girl in question is not our student, and everything happened outside our institution,” he said.

The clarification is expected to help separate the lecturer’s professional identity from the circumstances surrounding his death.

With three people reportedly in police custody, investigators are expected to piece together the events leading up to Uwuigbe’s death, including his movements at the hotel and the circumstances surrounding his interaction with the 21-year-old woman.

Authorities have not publicly established that the encounter caused his death, and the exact cause remains subject to investigation and medical findings.

The case has attracted attention in Ekpoma, particularly because of Uwuigbe’s position as a senior university lecturer and the unusual circumstances under which he died.

Police are expected to release further information as investigations progress.

For now, the death remains under investigation, with authorities working to establish what happened inside the hotel room before the lecturer was found unresponsive.
