Ruto Sets 2.5 Million Jobs Target Through Affordable Housing

President William Ruto has announced an ambitious employment target under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme, saying the initiative could create opportunities for between two million and 2.5 million Kenyans within the next two years.

The President said the housing programme is being positioned not only as a solution to the country’s housing shortage but also as a major source of employment for young people and other Kenyans seeking income opportunities.

According to Ruto, the government intends to expand construction activities across the country, creating demand for workers in different areas of the building industry. The expected opportunities will involve both skilled and unskilled workers, giving more people a chance to benefit from the expanding projects.

The President noted that construction of affordable homes requires a wide range of services and workers. From masons and plumbers to electricians, transporters and suppliers, many people can benefit from increased activity in the sector.

Ruto said the government is focused on ensuring that large-scale public programmes have a direct impact on ordinary citizens. He presented the housing initiative as one of the key avenues through which the administration hopes to tackle unemployment while improving living conditions for thousands of families.

The planned expansion comes as the government continues to promote affordable housing projects in various parts of the country. The programme has attracted attention because of its potential to provide homes while simultaneously supporting economic activity.

If the target is achieved, millions of Kenyans could gain access to employment or business opportunities linked to the construction industry over the coming years.

The President maintained that the government will continue pushing projects capable of creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.

The two-year target now places the Affordable Housing Programme at the centre of the administration’s wider employment strategy, with Kenyans waiting to see how quickly the promised opportunities will materialise.
