RIP: Photos Emerge Of University Lecturer Who Was Found Dead After Meeting 21-Year-Old Lady

Police in Edo State, Nigeria, have detained three people following the death of Dr Matthew Uwuigbe, a senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), in a hotel room in Ekpoma.

The incident occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026, at about 8pm at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area.

According to Edo State Police Command spokesperson Eno Ikoedem, Uwuigbe had checked into the hotel with a 21-year-old woman identified as Angela Defa Jacob.

Police said the lecturer later asked Jacob to leave the room and buy water. When she returned, she reportedly found Uwuigbe lying motionless on the floor.

Following the incident, police arrested Jacob alongside the hotel owner and manager as investigations were launched to establish what happened.

Ikoedem said detectives were continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s death.

Uwuigbe’s body was subsequently taken to the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary. Police have not yet revealed the cause of death, while post-mortem results had not been released by the time of reporting.

AAU confirmed that Uwuigbe was a member of its staff but said the incident occurred outside the university and involved his private life. The university also clarified that Jacob is not an AAU student.
