RIP: A Married Lecturer Walks Into A Lodging With A Sidechick Before He Collapses And Dies

Drama unfolded at a lodging facility after a married university lecturer entered a room with a young mistress before he suddenly collapsed and died.

Dr Matthew Uwuigbe, a senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, Edo State, reportedly died inside a hotel room on October 5, 2026.The incident occurred at about 8pm at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, within the Esan West Local Government Area.

Police said Uwuigbe had arrived at the hotel with a 21-year-old woman identified as Angela Defa Jacob. The situation later turned tragic when the lecturer was found unresponsive inside the room.

Edo State Police Command spokesperson Eno Ikoedem said Uwuigbe had asked Jacob to leave the room and buy water. When she came back, she reportedly discovered him lying on the floor.

The matter was immediately brought to the attention of the authorities, prompting police officers to begin enquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death.By Wednesday, October 8, police had detained three people as part of the investigation. They were the hotel owner, the hotel manager and Jacob, the woman who had accompanied the lecturer.

Authorities have not announced any charges against those detained. Investigators are working to establish what happened inside the room before Uwuigbe lost his life.

The lecturer’s remains were transferred to the mortuary at Oriaifo Memorial Hospital while investigations continued.

Ambrose Alli University confirmed that Uwuigbe was a member of its teaching staff. However, the institution said the incident took place outside the university and was unrelated to its activities.University Public Relations Officer Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika also stated that Jacob was not a student at the institution.

The precise cause of Uwuigbe’s death remains unclear. Police have not released the findings of a postmortem examination, if one has been completed.

Authorities are continuing with their investigation as they seek to determine exactly what happened before the senior lecturer died inside the hotel room.
