Oburu’s Close Family Mmber Reveals He’s Not Doing Well
Raila Odinga’s widow, Ida Odinga, has confirmed that ODM party leader Oburu Oginga is unwell, saying this is why he missed the dedication of the late former prime minister’s mausoleum.
Ida broke the news during the ceremony in Bondo, Siaya County, where President William Ruto officially handed over the completed mausoleum.
The structure stands at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, the family’s home where Raila was laid to rest.
Oburu’s absence was conspicuous, as he was not seen at the high-profile event.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ida apologised on behalf of her brother-in-law, whom she referred to as her senior brother-in-law, Dr Oburu Oginga.
She told those present that he could not join them because he was not feeling well.
Ida then asked Kenyans to keep the ODM leader in their prayers.
She expressed hope that he would recover soon and be back with them for public engagements.
“I know we will continue praying for him and soon, he will be with us again here,” she said.
She did not disclose the nature of his illness or say where he is receiving care.
The ceremony marked a major moment for the Odinga family and for ODM supporters, who have followed the completion of the mausoleum closely.
Ida’s remarks are the first public explanation from the family for the party leader’s absence from the event.
There has been no statement from ODM on Oburu’s condition at the time of publishing.
