Oburu Is ‘Dead’ Rumours Take New Twist as Senior Gvnt Official Issues Update After Hospital Visit

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi visited the hospitalized Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Odinga in Nairobi and provided an update on the Siaya senator’s recovery, after he missed the dedication ceremony of his late brother Raila Odinga’s mausoleum in Bondo.

Mudavadi met with Oburu soon after attending the handover and dedication ceremony of Raila’s mausoleum at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Siaya County, where President William Ruto officially transferred the facility to the Odinga family.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary’s office reported that Mudavadi was pleased to see Oburu making good progress in his recovery. He also updated the senator on the ceremony, which gathered national leaders, members of the Odinga family, and locals to celebrate Raila’s life and political legacy.

This visit came amid public concern over Oburu’s health, as his absence from the prominent event raised eyebrows. As both the ODM party leader and head of the Odinga family following Raila’s passing, many supporters expected him to attend the ceremony.

Oburu did send a message read by his eldest son, Jaoko Oburu, during the event, in which he apologized for not attending and explained that he was following his doctors’ advice to rest and limit physical activity.

He also mentioned his significant improvement in health, assuring attendees that he remained emotionally connected to the occasion, albeit unable to be there in person.

President Ruto had previously addressed concerns regarding Oburu’s absence, informing Bondo residents that the senator was dealing with a health issue and sending his regards.

During his hospital visit, Mudavadi shared details about the mausoleum ceremony and expressed satisfaction with Oburu’s recovery progress, providing reassurance amidst rising public interest in the ODM leader’s condition.

Oburu’s absence from the ceremony had sparked speculation on social media, but Mudavadi’s office confirmed that the senator was recovering under medical care, without issuing any official statements regarding online rumors of his death.
