My Appointment Has Humbled Me – Kpebu
Richard Kpebu, the newly appointed official of the Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption Unit (ORAL) at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, has responded to his appointment with a message centred on gratitude, humility and a determination to serve.
His appointment comes amid renewed national efforts to tackle corruption, improve accountability and strengthen Ghana’s institutions. Kpebu, who is known for his work as a legal practitioner and anti-corruption campaigner, said he considers the new role both an honour and a serious responsibility.
He expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him and pledged to perform his duties with integrity, discipline and a commitment to fairness. He indicated that his new position gives him an opportunity to support efforts aimed at improving institutions and restoring confidence in public governance.
In his role within ORAL, Kpebu will be involved in issues relating to organised crime and corruption offences. He emphasised that the fight against corruption cannot be left entirely to law enforcement agencies, arguing that government officials, institutions and ordinary citizens must all contribute to creating a culture of accountability.
He further noted that genuine transformation requires collective commitment to ethical conduct and responsible leadership.
Transparency, he said, would also be essential to the work of the unit. Kpebu assured Ghanaians that the office would be guided by professionalism, fairness and openness as it carries out its responsibilities.
He expressed hope that the work would contribute to creating a public-service culture where integrity and responsible leadership are treated as fundamental values.
The appointment has attracted positive attention from sections of the governance and civil society community, particularly among those who have consistently demanded tougher measures against corruption. Supporters of the appointment point to Kpebu’s legal expertise, advocacy record and outspoken position on accountability as qualities that could strengthen his contribution to the unit.
As he takes on the new assignment, Kpebu’s remarks have reinforced the view that tackling corruption remains crucial to Ghana’s long-term development. His message also reflects public expectations for stronger institutions, ethical governance, greater transparency and increased trust between citizens and the state.
