Police are searching for the ex-boyfriend of a woman who was pushed to her death off the balcony of her New York City apartment building while holding her infant.

Nathaly Ramirez, 23, was found critically injured and clutching her eight-month-old daughter outside of her apartment building in the Bronx shortly after 3.30am on Tuesday, the New York Police Department (NYPD) said.

Both were taken to a hospital where Ramirez was pronounced dead, but her baby remains in critical condition thanks to her mother’s tight embrace.

Police believe the mother and daughter were pushed off the 15th-floor balcony from Ramirez’s apartment.

A witness told WABC they heard a woman pleading, ‘Please don’t do this!’ before they saw something fall to the ground.

Surveillance video shows a man walking away from the scene as first responders arrived, PIX 11 reported.

The NYPD said they are looking for Ramirez’s ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old Angel Carrasco, in connection with the homicide.

It is unclear if Carrasco is the baby’s father, but sources told the local news station the young mother had a history of domestic violence.

One neighbor claimed he witnessed a disturbance at Ramirez’s residence with an unidentified man earlier this year.

‘It happened in January – he was kicking the door down, trying to get into the apartment,’ the neighbor said.

‘I’m not even sure what else can be done but something that will shine a light on the drastic uptick in domestic violence situations, especially for, you know, women out here – women like her.’

Friends described Ramirez as a devoted young mother.

‘She was very happy, like she was very happy to be a mom. She’s a new mom, and the baby was very happy,’ one friend said.

Ramirez formerly worked as a consultant at Lishawn’s Consulting.

‘Nathaly Ramirez was a gem to work with,’ the company’s CEO told People.

‘She was a very radiant person. She was very hardworking, showed tenacity and dedication to pursue her career goals.’

No arrests have been made as of Wednesday afternoon.
