Major Blow to Matiang’i as He Is Accused of ‘Bullying’ Jubilee Members
Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has hit out at Jubilee Party Leader Fred Matiang’i over what he termed as “bullying” of party members, warning that the alleged high-handed approach could undermine unity and internal democracy.
Wambugu claimed that some Jubilee officials who express views contrary to the party leadership are being intimidated. He argued that such actions could discourage members from freely participating in party affairs and expressing legitimate political opinions.
According to the former lawmaker, Jubilee was established on principles of inclusivity, consultation and democratic participation. He alleged that these values are increasingly being undermined, with dissenting voices facing pressure from senior officials within the organization.
Wambugu also raised concerns about the treatment of grassroots members who have remained loyal to Jubilee despite difficult political circumstances. He claimed that some leaders who sacrificed their political careers now feel sidelined by decisions made at the top.
The former Nyeri MP pointed to recent regional party engagements as examples of what he described as an emerging culture of intimidation. He urged Jubilee officials to address such concerns before frustrated members consider joining rival political formations.
Wambugu warned that alleged bullying could ultimately weaken Jubilee ahead of the next electoral contests. He called on Matiang’i and other senior officials to respect the party constitution and recognize members as equal stakeholders.
He further urged Jubilee’s leadership to embrace dialogue and establish fair mechanisms for resolving internal disputes. Wambugu argued that political leadership should be based on consensus-building rather than decisions that allegedly suppress members’ freedoms.
The former lawmaker reiterated his commitment to defending Jubilee members who feel targeted or unfairly treated. He said he would continue speaking out against what he considers arbitrary decisions that threaten the party’s unity and democratic values.
