How to Check NSSF Balance in Kenya Today: 4 Simple Ways Without Visiting a Branch

Many employees in Kenya never check their NSSF account, so they don’t notice when their employer fails to send the monthly deductions. That small gap can reduce your final retirement amount. The good news is you can now check your balance from your phone without visiting an NSSF office.

Here is how to do it in 2026 using the official channels.

Before you start, keep these ready: your National ID number, your NSSF membership number, the phone number you used to register with NSSF, and your 4-digit NSSF PIN. If you forgot your PIN, you can reset it through USSD or WhatsApp — you don’t need to go to the branch.

Enter your NSSF PIN. If you forgot it, press 0 and follow the reset steps

Select Contribution Information to see your provisional balance. NSSF will also send you an SMS copy instantly

It works on Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom.

Save the number 0704 303 303 on your phone as NSSF Kenya. Open WhatsApp and send “Hi”. The chatbot will reply.

It will ask for your ID or membership number plus your PIN. After verification, choose whether you want a quick summary or a full statement. The full statement comes as a PDF file inside the same chat, which you can download and share.

This method is also free and you can reset your PIN inside WhatsApp.

Go to selfservice.nssf.or.ke. If you have never used it before, click Member Registration and fill the form. You will need to print the slip and take it to the nearest NSSF branch once for activation. They will give you a PIN Key.

Once activated, log in with your username and password, then go to Account Information or Contributions section. You will see total savings and month-by-month history.

Download “NSSF Mobile” from Play Store or App Store. Log in with your member number and password. Tap on Contributions to view your balance.

If USSD fails, add some airtime and move to a place with better network. If WhatsApp is not replying, check you saved the correct number 0704303303. If the portal says account not activated, you have not completed the branch certification. If you see missing months, your employer has not remitted — report through or visit a branch.
