Hialeah Police arrested 38-year-old North Bay Village Police Officer Marcia Sangronis on Tuesday following the encounter at her home.

According to Local 10 news, Sangronis’ boyfriend flagged down officers Tuesday morning and told them he had been physically abused. He told police that Sangronis becomes “angry and violent” during conversations about what he described as his lack of motivation to pursue a career in law enforcement.

The man had stayed overnight at Sangronis’ home, where the topic came up both the night before and again the following morning, according to the report. At around 11 a.m., he decided to leave and told Sangronis he “wanted to end things.”

Police say Sangronis became upset, stood in front of the doorway and prevented him from leaving while telling him, “You are not allowed to leave.” When the man tried again to reach the doorknob, he told investigators that Sangronis began scratching and biting him.

The man told police Sangronis scratched his arms, face, and back with her nails before biting his left forearm multiple times. NBC 6 South Florida reported that the bites broke his skin, while police documented several injuries to his body, arms and face.

He eventually managed to get away from Sangronis and leave the residence, according to the arrest report. The man also told investigators that Sangronis had been physically and emotionally abusive during their two-year relationship.

Sangronis gave police a statement following the incident, but the version included in the arrest report was redacted. The information available therefore does not provide her account of what happened inside the home.

Sangronis was initially arrested on a charge of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, which was listed as a second-degree felony. During a Wednesday court appearance, however, a judge found probable cause for misdemeanor battery and set her bond at $1,000.

Miami-Dade corrections records still display the aggravated battery charge and identify the case as involving domestic violence, while noting that probable cause was found for an alternate charge with a $1,000 bond. Sangronis was also ordered to stay away from the man and was listed at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Sangronis joined the North Bay Village Police Department in 2025, according to additional local reporting, and the department said she was relieved of duty with pay following her arrest. The department said it holds its personnel accountable for conduct on and off duty, while Hialeah Police continued investigating the case.
