Expert Reveals What Can Remove Ruto From Power Even If Nyanza, Rift Valley & Mt Kenya Supports Him.
Economist and blogger Ephraim Njenga contends that despite the nation’s economic issues, the president’s focus on campaigning shouldn’t come as a surprise. He notes that the 2007 election showed that a president’s reelection is not guaranteed by a robust economy.
Due to strongly ingrained tribal politics, inhabitants usually prefer having one of their own in charge of their financial well-being, according to a Facebook post by Njenga, a fervent opponent of economic management. Njenga notes that Uhuru and Ruto have been prioritizing political maneuvering over economic management for the past 12 years, having learned to do so after 2007.
He goes on to say that there is little time for economic policymaking because the next election campaign starts as soon as a president is installed.
Njenga cautions that this tactic can backfire on Ruto, even though it was successful for Uhuru, who had the resources to borrow money and raise taxes. Ruto must contend with a unique economic climate where options for borrowing and taxation are all but exhausted. Njenga cautions that attempts to raise taxes may encounter fierce resistance and that any further borrowing could push the nation closer to economic catastrophe.
Mr. Njenga charges Uhuru with creating a “fake economy” through excessive borrowing, which maintained high state spending while the private sector was on the verge of going bankrupt. He characterizes the current state as a “zombie economy,” which is largely dysfunctional but only partially alive. How can such an economy be maintained while yet winning reelection, Njenga queries?
He makes the case that Ruto will be unbeatable if he can win over Raila and the Mount Kenya region in the 2027 election. But according to Njenga, the economy’s decline could hold the key to breaking tribal politics’ hold. He sees a scenario akin to 2002, where a great deal of popular indignation could result in the downfall of the majority of the present political establishment.
Njenga also cautions that although international bank bailouts and money creation may momentarily ease economic worries, they will almost certainly result in more serious issues. He asserts that the country may become ungoverned due to the ensuing economic turmoil if Ruto wins the election.
Njenga concludes by stressing that there are no easy answers for the future and urging good-willed Kenyans to unite in order to save the nation, highlighting the significance of a mental revolution at this critical juncture.
