Disturbing Chats Form 4 Girl Had Sent Her Boyfriend Just Days Before Being Killed

The family of 18-year-old Joy Wangui, who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, has dismissed screenshots circulating online as false, saying the conversation has nothing to do with their daughter.

Joy’s aunt, Margaret Njuguna, spoke out as relatives prepared to bury the Form Four student.

The screenshots purport to show a chat between Joy and her boyfriend, Walter Kipkoech.

In the messages, a man claims he sold land and paid school fees for a woman and expresses heartbreak over a breakup.

Margaret said the woman named in the chat is a lady called Faith, not Joy.

She urged Kenyans to read posts carefully before sharing them and confirmed that the family fully paid Joy’s school fees.

The aunt also advised young people to walk away peacefully from relationships that are not working and move on with their lives.

She added that Kipkoech will carry the burden of his alleged actions for the rest of his life.

Joy’s mother, Trizah Wairimu, described her as the firstborn of the family and a bright student at Molo Secondary School.

She was expected to sit the 2026 KCSE exams and, according to her mother, was a B student who was headed to university.

Wairimu said the family had known about the relationship and had reported their concerns to both the police and the local chief before the tragedy.

“No one deserves to die because of love,” she said.

She urged young people to heed their parents’ warnings, which she said often come from experience.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrested Kipkoech, 23, at a hideout in Lagwenda, Kuresoi North.

He was reportedly wearing a blood-stained boxer and jeans with dry blood stains, along with a T-shirt bearing the deceased’s name.

The DCI said Joy’s body was found in Kiambaa, Moto Location, where several weapons allegedly used in the attack were recovered.
