Chiefs Star Finally Reveals Why He Chose Amakhosi After Sundowns Shock Exit

Monnapule Saleng’s reported move to Kaizer Chiefs has emerged as one of the latest talking points in South African football, with the winger reportedly seeking a fresh start after a difficult spell at Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to Sports With Daily News, Saleng has allegedly agreed to a three-year pre-contract with Kaizer Chiefs that could see him join the Soweto giants as a free agent. However, the reported agreement remains unconfirmed, as neither Chiefs nor the player has formally announced the deal.

The development follows a challenging period for Saleng since his move from Orlando Pirates to Sundowns in January 2026. The winger had established himself as an exciting attacking player during his time with Pirates after previously featuring for Orbit College.

However, reports indicate that he struggled to secure regular opportunities at Sundowns and was subsequently separated from the club’s usual first-team setup.

The reported Chiefs move could therefore offer Saleng an opportunity to revive his career and regain his place among South Africa’s prominent attacking players.

Interestingly, Saleng has previously revealed a personal connection to Kaizer Chiefs. In a 2021 interview with iDiski Times, he said he grew up supporting Amakhosi, despite eventually making his name with their fierce Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates.

Chiefs are reportedly interested in the winger as part of their efforts to strengthen their attacking options under head coach Fernando Da Cruz. The club is undergoing a rebuilding process and could view Saleng’s experience and attacking ability as valuable additions to the squad.

There have also been recent reports claiming that Saleng has trained at Naturena, although those reports have not been confirmed by the club.
