Prime Video‘s Carrie puts a modern twist on Stephen King‘s 1974 novel — with even more violence than the original 1976 film.
Starring Summer H. Howell, Carrie follows teenager Carrie White, who lives at home with her mother, Margaret White (Samantha Sloyan), and must attend a new school in the wake of her father’s death. At her new school, Carrie quickly learns how cruel her classmates can be, especially in the age of social media and anonymous online trolls.
She is antagonized by bullies like Christine “Chris” Hargensen (Alison Thornton), who creates a fake Instagram account where she posts photos and videos of Carrie. Meanwhile, Carrie’s only friend is a strange girl named Emaline West (Thalia Dudek), whom nobody else can see. She encourages Carrie to embrace her telekinetic powers.
Eventually, the conflict between Carrie and Chris boils over, and Chris is expelled. To set things right, Tommy Ross (Joel Oulette) decides to invite Carrie to prom. But Chris, angrier than ever, decides to sabotage and enlists her boyfriend, Billy Nolan (Arthur Conti) to help.
So, what happens at the end of Carrie season 1? Here’s everything to know about the show’s dramatic final scenes.
While the first minute of each Carrie episode is narrated, the season 1 finale is told through flashbacks as the prom night survivors are being interviewed.
Through the conversations, viewers learn that after pig’s blood is spilled on Carrie at prom, Emaline encourages her to finally embrace her powers and stand up for herself.
Carrie starts by bringing down the catwalk Chris and Billy were standing on when they poured blood over her, but the two manage to escape. She then locks the gym doors and begins throwing people and objects around using her powers.
Eventually, a fire engulfs the entire school, but Carrie hardly notices. She’s focused on getting revenge on Chris and Billy, and follows them outside.
After escaping the fire, Chris and Billy get in their car and drive away from the school, but stop on a rural road to catch their breath and process what just happened.
Chris notices Carrie walking toward them in the rearview mirror, and Billy decides to run her over. Right before she gets hit, though, Carrie uses her powers to flip the car, causing it to roll over several times.
Chris and Billy are severely injured. Billy has been impaled, and Chris is struggling to breathe. As Carrie walks up to the car, Chris finally apologizes. Carrie then crushes the roof of the car, killing them both.
After killing Chris and Billy, Carrie is filled with a sense of power and freedom, which is further encouraged by Emaline. The duo dance through town, and everything they pass ignites in flames, thus destroying the town’s main street.
When Carrie looks back and sees the destruction, she finally comprehends how many people she’s just killed. Carrie returns home to her mom, Margaret, and cries. Her mom bathes her and asks her to pray.
But fearing that Carrie is too powerful and too dangerous, Margaret grabs a sewing needle and stabs Carrie in the ear. Enraged, Carrie makes the entire house implode.
As Carrie stands in the wreckage, she sees her mom underneath a giant piece of roofing, somehow holding it up with her own telekinetic power. After a brief moment, the roof piece collapses onto her, but doesn’t kill her.
Emaline then shows up, this time as an actual physical person, and takes Carrie away with her while Margaret watches from beneath the rubble.
The Carrie season 1 finale also introduces four new characters when Sue Snell (Siena Agudong) explains during her interview that there were four women at prom night who didn’t belong there.
One of the women is an assassin on a mission to kill psychics.
The other three appear to be from some kind of telekinesis coven that has taken an interest in Carrie. Their intentions, and even their names, are completely unknown.
Another twist emerges when the interviewer questions Carrie’s mom, Margaret, and tells her to focus on her heartbeat. The interviewer tells her heartbeat to slow down more and more until eventually it comes to a stop, killing Margaret.
The mysterious women from prom night subsequently enter the room to take away Margaret’s body, revealing that the interviews aren’t for a documentary after all, but are being collected by a group of psychics.
In the final scene of the season 1 finale, Carrie wakes up in a car being driven by Emaline.
Carrie asks where they are, and Emaline says she can’t tell her because if she does, then Carrie can think about it, which could expose them to other psychics. But Emaline promises Carrie that she’s taking her somewhere safe.
In September 2026, director Mike Flanagan confirmed to Collider that he hopes to make three seasons of Carrie. Prime Video has not yet renewed the series for a season 2.
“In my dream scenario, I think Carrie has a wonderful three-step arc,” Flanagan told the outlet. “It’s a trilogy, really.”
