Bad News for ODM Leaders and Supporters as Sudden Update Emerges from Oburu’s Doctors

ODM Party Leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga is continuing his recovery after a recent hospitalisation, with his doctors directing him to take a period of rest and limit his physical engagements.

The development comes amid growing public interest in the health of the veteran politician, particularly after unverified reports about his condition circulated on social media. Oburu’s secretariat has moved to reassure members of the public that he remains alive, mentally alert and in good spirits.

According to his office, doctors have placed Oburu on forced rest as he recuperates and advised him to avoid strenuous physical activities. Despite the restrictions, the senator is said to remain interested in political and national affairs and continues to follow developments in the country.

Oburu’s absence was particularly noticeable on Wednesday, October 7, when he failed to attend the official handover and dedication of the Raila Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.

His son, Jaoko Oburu, represented him at the ceremony and delivered a personal message on his behalf. In the message, Oburu explained that he was following strict medical instructions to rest and reduce his physical engagements, while assuring mourners and political leaders that his spirit, mind and heart remained present despite his absence.

The ceremony brought together President William Ruto, members of the Odinga family and numerous political leaders to honour the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Oburu’s office had earlier indicated that he was preparing a speech for the ceremony despite his medical condition. Reports further indicate that he recently received medical attention at Nairobi Hospital after returning from the United Kingdom, where he had travelled for routine medical checks.

His health became a subject of heightened public discussion after social media users circulated claims that he had died. His secretariat promptly dismissed the reports, stating that the senator was alive and recovering.

As Oburu continues his recovery, his office has appealed to the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports concerning his health.
