Assistant Director II Receives GH₵4,200 Monthly, Yet Someone Receives Same In A Day Meeting – Obenfo

Obenfo Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, National Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools, has raised concerns about the disparity between public-sector salaries and meeting allowances as teachers continue their industrial action.

Speaking on Onua TV, Gyetuah said it was unfair for an Assistant Director II in the Ghana Education Service to earn approximately GH₵4,200 for a month while another person could reportedly receive the same amount for attending a single meeting.

According to him, the disparity highlights concerns about how public funds are managed and could have a negative effect on morale among education workers.

Gyetuah also questioned the handling of unpaid salaries and allowances owed to teachers. He claimed that some affected workers could not access proper records showing the amounts owed to them, making it difficult for them to pursue their outstanding payments.

The comments come as teacher unions continue their strike over unpaid financial obligations. Discussions with the Ministry of Education are aimed at resolving the dispute, but the unions have insisted that outstanding payments must be addressed before teachers resume work.

The industrial action has heightened concerns about the welfare of teachers and the administration of the education sector. A prolonged strike could disrupt academic activities and affect students, particularly those preparing for major examinations.

Gyetuah’s comments have added to calls for improved payroll management, accurate records of outstanding payments and timely settlement of legitimate arrears owed to education workers.
