Another Accra-Kumasi Highway Crash Leaves One Dead and Five Injured as Earlier one Claimed 12 Lives

A fresh accident on the Accra-Kumasi Highway has claimed one life and left five others injured, adding to growing concerns about road safety along the major route.

The latest crash occurred at Asubuo when a Kia Rhino reportedly collided with a MAN Diesel truck.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service, personnel from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station were dispatched to the scene after the incident. Firefighters rescued a person who was trapped inside the Kia Rhino using specialised extrication equipment before transporting the casualty to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical attention.

Five people were injured in the collision, while a male pedestrian was reportedly struck and died at the scene.

The incident comes shortly after another serious crash at the Birimso Bridge section of the same highway. That earlier accident involved an STC passenger bus, an articulated truck and other vehicles, resulting in a major fire.

Initial reports from the Birimso Bridge incident indicated that 12 people lost their lives, while 44 others sustained injuries. The crash also caused significant traffic disruption as authorities introduced diversions while emergency teams worked to manage the situation and clear the road.

The latest fatality has renewed attention on safety conditions along the Accra-Kumasi Highway, a key route used by commercial vehicles, private motorists, passengers and pedestrians.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the Asubuo collision to establish what led to the crash.

The two incidents in a short period have reinforced calls for greater caution among road users and strict adherence to traffic and road safety regulations to reduce the risk of further accidents.
