Woman Responds After Kasoa Uber Driver Alleges Sexual Assault by Three Women
A woman who claims to be one of three women accused of sexually assaulting an Uber driver in Kasoa has spoken publicly about the allegations, disputing the driver’s account and offering her own explanation of what happened.
The woman spoke on Kasapa FM after the driver, identified as Kwame, recounted an alleged incident involving three women at an apartment in East Legon Hills. The driver claimed that after taking the women to their destination, he was invited into the apartment and later prevented from leaving.
He alleged that one of the women locked the door and took the keys before the three women subjected him to unwanted sexual contact despite his attempts to stop them. He said the experience left him physically weak and distressed.
In response, the woman who said she was involved questioned why the driver had decided to make the incident public. She suggested that the encounter had been consensual and asked whether he had not enjoyed it.
She also claimed that the driver was not the first man involved in a similar encounter with the group, saying he was about the third. However, that claim has not been independently verified, and the identities of the other alleged victims have not been established.
The competing accounts have generated considerable discussion about consent and sexual violence against men, particularly the tendency to dismiss allegations involving male victims.
Legal commentary has also entered the debate. Lawyer Noah Ephraem Tetteh Adamtey said Ghana’s current legal framework presents difficulties because the statutory definition of rape does not ordinarily recognise a man as the victim when the alleged perpetrators are women. He noted that other offences, including indecent assault, assault and false imprisonment, could potentially apply depending on the facts.
For now, the allegations and the woman’s counterclaims remain unproven. No court finding establishing what happened has been reported, making further investigation necessary before responsibility can be determined.
