Wicknell Chivayo Funeral Draws Attention as Convoy of Black Cars Arrives
The funeral ceremony of Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, attracted huge crowds on Wednesday, October 7, as mourners gathered in Harare to pay their final respects to the couple.
The ceremony, held a day before their scheduled burial, was marked by an emotional atmosphere, with hundreds of mourners turning up to honour the late businessman and his wife.
Most of those attending were dressed in white, creating a striking scene as people filled the venue and spilled onto nearby roads.
However, it was a convoy of black vehicles that became one of the most noticeable features of the ceremony.
According to footage shared online, a long line of black cars moved through the gathering, accompanied by security Land Cruisers fitted with sirens.
The arrival attracted the attention of mourners, with many turning their heads as the procession made its way through the venue.
The scale of the motorcade appeared to reflect the high-profile nature of the funeral and the influence Chivayo had built during his lifetime.
The Zimbabwean businessman was widely known for his lavish lifestyle, business activities and relationships with prominent figures in political and business circles.
Chivayo and Lucy died in a helicopter crash on September 30, 2026.
They were among five people who lost their lives when the aircraft crashed near Marondera in Zimbabwe.
Also killed were Lucy’s aide, Saneliswe Magagula, pilot Calvin Tafirei Soda and co-pilot Courage Mutavirwa.
Their deaths shocked Zimbabwe and attracted widespread attention across Africa, particularly because of Chivayo’s prominent public profile and his close associations with influential figures.
The businessman had become famous for displaying his wealth on social media, where he frequently showcased luxury vehicles, expensive properties and high-profile relationships.
His death therefore generated enormous public interest, with thousands of people following developments surrounding his funeral arrangements.
The couple were scheduled to be buried at Glen Forest Cemetery in Harare on Thursday, October 8.
Their funeral ceremony on Wednesday provided relatives, friends, business associates and members of the public with an opportunity to mourn them before the final burial.
As mourners gathered to say goodbye, the impressive convoy of black vehicles became another striking moment in a funeral already attracting considerable public attention.
For many observers, the procession offered a visual reminder of the extraordinary public presence Chivayo commanded during his lifetime, even as Zimbabwe prepared to lay the controversial and flamboyant businessman to rest.
