Who is Prema Vishwas? Indian para-badminton star seeks PM Modi’s intervention after Asian Para Games 2026 entry rejection
Prema Vishwas' hopes of competing at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games have been thrown into uncertainty, with the Indian para-shuttler claiming an issue with her entry has left her out of the event.
With the Games now just days away, Prema has taken her case directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stressing that the dispute involves years of work and her chance to represent India on a major international stage.
Prema Vishwas is an India international para-badminton player from Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand. She competes in the WH1 wheelchair category and has represented the country on the international circuit.
The para-shuttler won two bronze medals at the Egypt Para-Badminton International 2025, an event that contributed to the selection rankings for the Para Asian Games.
Prema has alleged that her entry for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games was not submitted by the federation initially and that a later submission was delayed to the point that it was no longer accepted.
With the Games beginning on October 18, she has now made an urgent appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying her qualification and ranking were earned through years of performances.
"Very little time is left. The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games begin on 18 October. I earned my Asian ranking and qualification through my hard work and performances, but my entry was not sent by the Federation, leaving me in this situation.
"Prime Minister Ji, I humbly request you with folded hands to kindly intervene immediately and ensure that, by any possible means, my entry is made and I am given the opportunity to represent India at the Asian Para Games.
"This is about 8 years of my hard work and my entire sporting career. I only want the opportunity to play for my country and represent India."

For Prema, missing the Games would mean more than losing the chance to compete at one major event. She has previously highlighted the financial difficulties involved in sustaining her career, saying she does not have the backing needed to continue competing for years and rebuild her ranking.
The upcoming Asian Para Games are therefore particularly significant for the para-shuttler, who has described the event as potentially her first and last opportunity to compete at the continental Games.
Prema's appeal now centres on getting an opportunity to compete for India at Aichi-Nagoya 2026. With the event fast approaching, she is seeking intervention over what she describes as an entry-related issue.
Her case puts the focus on the selection and entry process, with the para-shuttler asking for the opportunity to compete after what she says has been eight years of hard work.
The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games will be held from October 18 to 24, bringing around 3,000 athletes from 45 National Paralympic Committees to Japan. The competition will feature 18 Para sports across the Games.
With the opening day approaching, athletes from across Asia will compete for medals over a week-long continental sporting showcase.
