Virat Kohli’s spokesperson has rejected a claim that the Indian cricketer was paid Rs5 crore for visiting spiritual leader Premanand Ji Maharaj in Vrindavan.
The claim was made by Falahari Maharaj Dinesh Sharma, who alleged that money had been spent to facilitate Kohli’s visit and increase the spiritual leader’s popularity.
Kohli’s spokesperson categorically denied the allegation, saying there was no truth to the claim.
“We would like to categorically state that the claims made by Falahari Maharaj Dinesh Sharma in regards to Mr. Virat Kohli are completely false, baseless and factually incorrect,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said Kohli’s visits to Premanand Maharaj Ji were motivated by his personal beliefs.
“Mr. Virat Kohli visits Premanand Maharaj Ji purely out of his deep faith and reverence for Maharaj Ji,” the statement said.
The spokesperson also urged media organisations to verify claims before reporting or amplifying them.
“We strongly refute these claims and urge the media to exercise due diligence, verify facts before reporting or amplifying such statements, and report responsibly,” the statement added.
Kohli has visited Premanand Ji Maharaj’s ashram in Vrindavan several times with his wife, actor Anushka Sharma.
The couple’s association with the spiritual leader dates back to 2023, with photographs and videos from their visits subsequently appearing online.
The Rs5 crore claim was reportedly linked to Kohli’s first meeting with Premanand Ji Maharaj.
Sharma, also known as Falahari Maharaj, is the president of the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas and made the allegation while discussing Kohli’s visit.
However, no verified evidence or official document has been presented in the material cited to establish that Kohli received Rs5 crore for visiting the spiritual leader.
