UP: Four Students Die After Entering Water Tank at Mathura Gurukulam, One Critical
Four students died and another was critically injured after they entered a 12-foot-deep water tank at Vrindavan Gurukulam in Uttar Pradeshβs Mathura district on Wednesday. A toxic gas is suspected to have caused the deaths, though authorities are investigating the exact circumstances.
The incident occurred at the residential educational institution in the Vrindavan police station area, where children stay and study.
According to police, the water tank inside the institution was emitting a foul smell. One student entered the tank to clean it but did not return. Four other students subsequently entered the tank and also failed to emerge.
People present at the institution then managed to pull all five students out and rushed them to a hospital. Four students were declared dead, while the fifth is undergoing treatment in critical condition.
Mathura Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar confirmed the incident and said police teams had reached the spot.
βA short while ago, information was received that in the Vrindavan police station area, there is an institution named Vrindavan Gurukulam, a residential setup where children stay and study,β Kumar said.
He said the students had entered the tank after noticing the foul smell and apparently attempted to clean it.
βFirst, one boy went inside, but he didn’t come out. Following him, four more boys went inside. When they also failed to come out, the people present there made efforts and somehow pulled them out,β the SSP said.
Authorities suspect that toxic gas inside the tank may have caused the students to lose consciousness, but the exact cause of the deaths is yet to be established.
Police are conducting an investigation at the site, while further details regarding the incident and the identities of the deceased are awaited.
