Two killed in Sutter County head-on crash

(FOX40.COM) — Two people were killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision on State Route 99 in Sutter County Tuesday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to CHP, officers responded to a report of a crash on SR-99 south of Howsley Road around 5:30 p.m.

CHP said investigators believe a sedan headed south crossed all the southbound lanes and the dirt median and into the northbound lanes where it crashed head-on with an SUV. The sedan then overturned into a ditch.

The driver and front passenger of the sedan were pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the backseat of the car sustained major injuries and was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and was also taken to a local hospital for treatment.

CHP said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
