Stock Lamborghini Huracan Driver Told to Sue Officer After $100 Ticket for Popping Sounds

The encounter was captured on camera and posted on Instagram. The driver claimed that his yellow Huracan was in stock condition, but the officer argued that the popping noises were “illegal,” and asked the driver to get his vehicle checked by a mechanic. After watching the entire conversation, users in the comments section urged the driver to sue the officer.
Supercars can produce pops and bangs during downshifts and deceleration when unburnt fuel ignites in the hot exhaust system. When the driver lifts off the throttle or downshifts, the engine control unit (ECU) can alter fuel delivery or ignition timing, creating the conditions that produce these characteristic sounds.
Austin Murray’s Garage posted the video on Instagram, pointing out that the officer refused to budge on his position and even turned to Google to look up the popping phenomenon, apparently unaware that such sounds can be normal for a supercar. Of course, the internet does not always provide the right answers, and the search results seemed to prove that point.
The driver explained to the officer that the Huracan was built this way from the factory. However, the officer said the pops were due to the “exhaust in the tailpipe,” and as a result, the owner would have to consult a mechanic and perhaps “clean it out” or use a “different fuel mixture.” It didn’t stop there. The officer also suggested changing the spark plugs on the Huracan.
The officer then told the Huracan driver to be more careful, insisting that the pops were illegal, before issuing him a $100 ticket for creating a “loud unnecessary noise with a motor vehicle.” The driver tried to defend himself by explaining that the Huracan had not been modified.
The officer responded by saying that he had previously owned a Ford Mustang and a Volkswagen Golf, adding that both cars could be “adjusted” to produce similar pops. He then told the driver that driving more carefully could have prevented the noises, but the driver insisted that he had not been accelerating hard or driving fast.
The officer, however, remained firm on his point that creating such noises was illegal and that “every other car driving here doesn’t do that.” The owner emphasized that he was driving a supercar and not a regular car, to which the officer said:
“You need to get your engine cleaned up, get better spark plugs, or drive safer, or a combination of all those to not make these pops.”
“I’ve been a cop for 18 years, and I’ve been in traffic for eight. Those are done on purpose [pops].”
When the driver explained his version again, the officer continued to stand by his point. He eventually asked the driver to “go talk to a mechanic,” adding that drivers get the pops on their cars “on purpose” for “attention.”
The driver then asked his viewers if he should fight the ticket in court or pay the $100 and call it a day. More than 10,000 users have commented on the viral video, with some of their responses shared below:
“Sue the officer in the department and say using Google’s AI overview is foul misrepresentation of the law”
“Don’t talk to him and just take it to traffic court. Dude has no idea what he’s talking about.”
“That cop doesn’t know what he’s talking about”
“PLEASE take it to a mechanic and repeat word for word what the cop said, then record their incredulous response and play it back to the judge in front of the cop in court, then bring their reactions back to us 🤣🤣🤣”
“Its not about the money. Take it to court. It makes no sense for him to tell you to change fuel mixture or clean your engine to reduce pops on a stock car. It makes no sense.”
“Bros been a traffic cop for 8 years and doesn’t know how cars work 👍🏻”
