Calls for continued development in province
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said rising terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa must be curbed at all costs, stressing that the government wants development in the province to continue like other parts of the country.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam on Wednesday.
The meeting covered matters relating to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Shehbaz said the sacrifices made by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fight against terrorism were deeply valued.
He stressed that efforts to promote development in the province should continue despite the security challenges.
The prime minister has repeatedly said security operations against militant groups will continue until terrorism is eliminated.
The remarks came a day after Shehbaz and President Asif Ali Zardari expressed concern over recent terrorist incidents in Dera Ismail Khan and paid tribute to four Customs officials and a traffic police official killed in the attacks.
During Wednesday’s meeting, Muqam briefed the prime minister on ongoing affairs and progress in various sectors across AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Shehbaz directed that effective measures continue to ensure the welfare and development of people in the two regions, including the provision of basic amenities.
He said the development of AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, along with the prosperity of their people, remained among the government’s top priorities.
The prime minister also stressed the need for continued efforts to improve living conditions and promote development in the regions.
