OBJ Was Told It Wasn’t Just My Dad’s Burial That Was Going On & I Was Planning To Usurp His Govt—Obi
Senator Ben Obi has spoken about how his relationship with Olusegun Obasanjo became strained in 2002 when Obasanjo was president
In an interview with Symfoni TV, Obi said he was initially very close to Obasanjo, who regularly invited him to the Presidential Villa for lunch and asked for his honest views about how his government was performing.
Obi stated that when he held his father’s burial in 2002, many of his friends from northern, western and eastern Nigeria attended the ceremony in Awka. He said some people at the burial later contacted Obasanjo and told him that the gathering was not only about the burial but also about plans to usurp his government in 2003. He said this caused conflict between him and Obasanjo
In Obi’s words: “When in 2002 I did my father’s burial I had very good friends across the country from north, west and east. They were all in attendance in my father’s burial. And some people who were at the burial called Obasanjo to tell him it is not just my father’s burial that is going, it is how we were going to usurp his government in 2003”
