MK Party MP David Skosana Ambushed on N4 — Gunmen Forced Firearms Through His Car Windows

MK Party Member of Parliament David Skosana was reportedly confronted by armed men on the N4 highway on Monday night in an incident that is now being investigated by the South African Police Service.

According to the information available, Skosana was travelling alone in an unmarked white Volkswagen Polo when the armed men allegedly approached his vehicle and ordered him to stop. The suspects reportedly pushed loaded firearms through the rear windows of the car while demanding that he pull over to the side of the road.

The incident happened at night, when visibility was limited and there were reportedly few immediate sources of assistance. Skosana is said to have been without his usual security detail at the time. According to the account, he had dismissed his personal protection unit earlier in the evening before continuing his journey alone.

Despite the seriousness of the confrontation, no shots were fired. Skosana reportedly managed to get away from the situation without suffering physical injuries. The incident, however, is understood to have left him shaken.

South African Police Service spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe confirmed that a case had been opened and that investigators were working to establish what happened. She said the matter was under investigation and confirmed that no suspects had been arrested at that stage. Police have not publicly provided further details about the possible motive or the exact number of people involved.

Skosana is an elected member of the National Assembly and represents the uMkhonto we Sizwe Party, commonly known as the MK Party. The party became a significant force in South African politics following the 2024 general elections.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged attack have raised questions about whether Skosana was specifically targeted and, if so, why. However, there is currently no confirmed information linking the incident to political disagreements, party disputes or any other specific motive. Investigators will have to establish whether the men intended to rob Skosana, intimidate him or carry out another act.

The attack has also renewed concerns about the safety of public representatives travelling without security. Politicians and other public figures can face threats for different reasons, but the motive in this case remains unknown.

For now, the investigation is focused on identifying the suspects and determining exactly what happened on the N4. Authorities will also need to establish whether the incident was planned and whether anyone else may have been involved.

Skosana escaped without physical harm, but the alleged confrontation has raised serious concerns among those close to him. With no arrests reported so far, questions about who was behind the incident and why the MP was allegedly targeted remain unanswered.
