Makalla invites IPU delegates to explore Tanzania

ARUSHA: ARUSHA Regional Commissioner Amos Makalla has invited delegates attending the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly to explore Tanzania’s tourism and cultural attractions, assuring them of the warm hospitality of the people of Arusha.

Mr Makalla said Arusha and the wider region offered delegates an opportunity to experience Tanzania’s natural beauty, wildlife and rich cultural heritage alongside their participation in the international parliamentary gathering.

The RC was speaking yesterday during the opening of the 153rd IPU Assembly in Arusha, which was officiated by Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba on behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Mr Makalla encouraged delegates to visit Mount Kilimanjaro, describing it as one of Tanzania’s major tourist attractions and Africa’s highest peak. He also invited them to experience cultural tourism sites, including Maasai bomas, saying such visits would provide an opportunity to learn more about Tanzania’s diverse cultures and traditions.

“I am confident that you will not regret visiting these attractions in Tanzania,” said Mr Makalla.

The Regional Commissioner expressed gratitude to the IPU and Speaker of the National Assembly Mussa Azzan Zungu for bringing the assembly to Arusha. He said the event provided an important opportunity for the region to showcase its hospitality, cultural heritage and tourism potential to the international community.

“As the host region, we did our best to ensure that the organising committee fulfilled its duties successfully,” he said.

Mr Makalla assured delegates and invited guests that the people of Arusha were generous, welcoming and friendly, urging them to feel free to explore the city and its surroundings during their stay.

He said Arusha had much to offer beyond the conference venue, including cultural and tourism attractions capable of enriching delegates’ experience of Tanzania.

“Arusha hakuna matata,” he said, using the popular Swahili expression associated with Tanzania’s welcoming spirit.

The Regional Commissioner said the presence of delegates from different countries also offered an opportunity for cultural interaction and greater understanding among people from diverse backgrounds.

He noted that Arusha had a distinctive position as an international meeting point, hosting major regional and international institutions and events.

Mr Makalla said the region was ready to ensure that delegates enjoyed their stay while participating in discussions on global parliamentary issues.

He encouraged delegates to take advantage of their presence in Tanzania by visiting attractions within and beyond Arusha, saying such experiences would give them a broader understanding of the country.

The 153rd IPU Assembly has brought together parliamentarians from around the world to deliberate on governance, inclusion, trust, opportunity, peace, development and international cooperation.
