KPLC: Prepare for Long Hours of Power Outage on Wednesday October 7, If You Live in These Areas

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has issued a fresh warning to customers in several parts of the country over planned electricity interruptions scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

The planned outages are linked to maintenance works on the power network and are expected to affect homes, businesses, schools, hospitals, markets and other institutions in the listed areas. Most of the interruptions will run from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., while some locations will lose power earlier in the morning.

Customers in the affected areas have been advised to prepare in advance, particularly those operating businesses or institutions that rely heavily on electricity.

The interruptions could also affect activities such as water pumping, communication services and other operations that depend on a stable power supply.

In Nairobi, parts of Runda are scheduled for an eight-hour interruption from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The affected areas include Runda Drive, Mimosa Road, Mimosa Vale, Runda Vale, Runda Park, Ruaka Groove and adjacent customers.

Parts of Kamae will also be affected during the same period, including Imela Homes, Tapaz Lounge, 277 Lounge, Saa Mbaya and surrounding areas.

In Trans Nzoia County, customers around Aturukan, Kibomet, Mwaita, Perekera and Tuigoin should prepare for a similar interruption.

The affected locations include Aturukan HT, Mt Elgot Dairies, Sinendet Centre, Kibomet Primary School, Bishop Yego, Sirwo Resort, Mwaita Primary School, Tuigoin Centre, Kiptenden, Kuriot, Parkera and Murgoiyo.

Parts of Kisumu County will also experience an outage affecting Daraja Mbili Market, Koyango Market, Daraja Mbili Village, part of Manyatta B and adjacent customers.

Nyeri County has several areas on the maintenance schedule. Customers around Mathari Hospital and Outspan Medical College will be affected from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., including Mathari Shopping Centre, Kagongo Village, Caritas, Chania Rwamba and surrounding areas.

A longer interruption beginning at 8.00 a.m. will affect Ihwagi, Ragati Tea Factory and numerous surrounding markets, schools, villages, trading centres and booster sites until 5.00 p.m.

In Murang’a County, Kihumbuini and Mukurwe will experience an interruption from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., affecting Mukurwe, Njaini, Kihumbuini Market, Mukurwe Primary School and Githima Market.

Embu customers around Karurumo, Ishiara and Kanyuambora should also prepare for an interruption from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., covering Kamumu, Soko, Karerema, Gwakaithi Primary School, Karigiri Primary School, Murari Village, Kavengero, Canon Habert, Kabubua, Mugwanjogu, Kirigo Secondary School, Ngoce, Ciangera and Munthathara.

In Kitui County, Maliku Market, Kavisuni, Mandongoi Secondary School, Kanyangi Market, Kanyangi Secondary School, Zambia Water Supply and Kanyongonyo Market are scheduled for interruption from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Garissa County will also be affected, with customers in Sumeya, 17KR Modika and Maua Millers facing an outage from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

The affected locations include Maua Millers, Modika CAK, 17KR, Sumeya, Quba, Bulla Hagar, Duale Farm and adjacent customers.

KPLC has urged customers in all listed locations to make necessary preparations before the scheduled maintenance begins and to treat the specified outage periods as a warning to avoid disruptions to their daily activities.
