KMTC Student Anne Adhiambo Killed Days Before Graduation Over Pair of Trousers

Anne Adhiambo was only days away from graduation when her life was tragically cut short at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nairobi Campus.

The 29-year-old was in her final year, studying for a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery, having started her studies in September 2024. She was reportedly her family’s only daughter.

On the morning of July 7, 2026, Adhiambo left her dormitory room, Room 220 in the Mary Griffin Hostel, allegedly on her way to church. She came across another student wearing a pair of trousers she had been looking for, which led to a confrontation. Following this, she was coaxed into a ground-floor hostel room where five other female students were present.

Investigations and a post-mortem revealed that Adhiambo sustained serious injuries during the encounter. She had suffered trauma to her head from a blunt object, and marks around her neck and tongue indicated strangulation. Additionally, she had bite marks on her abdomen and blood was found around her nose and ears.

The post-mortem conducted at Nairobi Funeral Home ruled out suicide, suggesting she was the victim of a violent attack.

Her body was later discovered in Room 220 on the upper floor by a roommate returning from classes around 11 PM, who found her lying on the floor, blocking the doorway.

The five students allegedly fled the campus soon after the incident. Homicide detectives from the DCI in Kasarani took over the case; as of the latest updates in August, no arrests had been made.

KMTC announced that it had provided CCTV footage and security records to the investigators and was cooperating with law enforcement.

Days later, Adhiambo’s parents came to retrieve her belongings. Her distraught mother was seen praying at the campus gate, while her father expressed his uncertainty about what to do with their daughter’s items.

Instead of taking home her graduation certificate, her parents left with her belongings.
